A letter to my neighbors

Dear Neighbor,

Sarasota Memorial is the cornerstone of our community’s health — and it belongs to you. As the elected Treasurer of the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board, I have watched its books since you elected me in 2022 the way you would want a businessman to: independently, in public, and without taking a dime for it.

The record comes straight from the District’s audited financial statements: straight-A patient safety at both campuses. An employee pension funded at 113 percent. 305 days of cash on hand. And zero dollars paid to shareholders — because your hospital has none.

That last number is what is on the ballot this August. New state legislation opens the door for private-equity buyers of community hospitals like ours. My answer has not changed: not for sale. Not now. Not ever.

Reaching every household in the Northern District takes resources — mail, digital outreach, yard signs, and shoe leather. Will you join our effort today? Your investment makes the difference.

Election Day is Tuesday, August 18, with early voting August 8–16. Thank you for your time, your trust, and your commitment to the future of healthcare in Sarasota County.

Sincerely,

Brad Baker
